
The Throat Chakra, what is it?
It is the center for communication, self-expression and creativity. It’s the fifth chakra, or energy center, represented by the color blue. It is also known as Vissudha, meaning “purification” in Sanskrit. It is often represented as a sixteen-petaled lotus.
“HAM” is the Bija Mantra most often associated with activating this chakra.
It can be associated with the Lung and Large Intestine meridians, and can be associated with the Spleen meridian.
Trauma that is stored in this area (known as a blockage or deficiency) often manifests as raspy voices, inflamed throats, ulcers, or loss of voice. Disorders of the throat, ears, voice, and neck. Tightness in the jaw can also be a manifestation of trauma to this chakra as well. It can also present as anxiety disorders or other seemingly “worse” medical issues, depending on how severely abused someone is during childhood (*The chakras are formed during different stages of childhood. And should some form of abuse occur, or a need go unmet, the body, seeing it as a form of abuse, affects how chakras are formed and causes trauma to be stored within the body, manifesting as ailments).

It is quite literally located in the throat/neck region; pharyngeal plexus
What does the Throat Chakra control?
The throat chakra is responsible for giving a person the ability to speak their inner truth, to express themselves honestly, and to communicate authentically and with confidence.
What does it mean if it’s blocked?
If this chakra is blocked, there may be timid speech or an inability to speak, social anxiety, speech impediments, or shyness may even be present. The feeling of a “lump in your throat” may actually be your throat chakra being blocked. Fear of speaking, difficulty putting feelings into words, Introversion, tone deafness, and poor rhythm are all signs of a deficiency in the Throat Chakra.
What does it mean if the Throat Chakra is overactive?
If the Throat Chakra is overactive, there will be an inability to listen, interrupting others, talking excessively, being overly critical of others or yourself. Gossiping and a dominating voice may also be present.
How does it look/sound if it’s balanced?
If the Throat Chakra is open and balanced, you should experience clear communication, self-confidence, and the ability to speak one’s truth honestly. Authenticity. A resonant voice, good sense of timing and rhythm. A Good listener. Also, someone with a balanced Throat Chakra lives creatively.
Why is it important to have balanced chakras?
Health, openness, calmness, lower cortisol levels, lower blood pressure, and less stress.
